  • Supermicro is a bit behind on some refinement of their web site listings for OS compatibility, but with their recent compatibility table update, I can now assure you that indeed, the Supermicro SuperServer SYS-5028D-TN4T is very much compatible with:

EDITED FOR CLARITY OS Compatibility Chart indicates VMware ESXi 6.0 compatibility for X10SDV-TLN4F in SYS-5028D-TN4T
OS Compatibility Chart indicates VMware ESXi 6.0 compatibility for X10SDV-TLN4F in SYS-5028D-TN4T. The legend for the "A2" indication states " A2 - SATA [w/o RAID, AHCI mode], meaning Intel RST RAID mode this AHCI controller can optionally utilize is not VMware compatible. • VMware vSphere ESXi 5.5 Update 2
      (and later 5.5 releases)
    • VMware vSphere ESXi 6.0
      (and later 6.0 releases)

I've also been advised that Supermicro is working on getting this little mini-tower system listed on the VMware Hardware Compatibility Guide.

Finally, worth noting that I've tested all the important new features this Xeon D-1540 chipset offers, including:

    • excellent speeds for the Samsung 950 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD, leveraging PCI 3.0 x4 lanes, and ESXi 6.0's built-in NVMe driver
    • Full 10GbE support for VMware, simply install the VIB
    • hardware health monitoring, using ESXi 6.0 as is, with no additional CIM install needed! (pictured below)
My home lab's ESXi 6.0 Update 1a shown here, running on my Supermicro SuperServer SYS-5028D-TN4T.
