VMworld 2017 US VMTN Community Blogger - VMware vSphere 6.5U1 home datacenter demo
I realize a vast majority of my readers can't make it to VMworld:
This video helps you feel a little like you were there, visiting my demo. It gives you a look at how simple and fast sysadmin functions can be, in a properly configured home lab environment. The dozens of folks who visited me from all over the globe mostly chatted with me about the physical server itself, and their experiences with it, which was wonderful! This left little time to show the various UIs though, that I use for the sysadmin of my Supermicro SuperServer SYS-5028D-TN4T Xeon D-1541 Bundle 2. This video hopefully fills that gap, a make-up session if you will.
The complete BOM (Bill Of Materials) for this demo is found at:
You will see me using Chrome shortcuts to launch brief overviews of each of the following simple sysadmin UIs featured in my traveling datacenter:
- EdgeOS (Ubiquiti EdgeMax Router Web UI)
- mPowerPro (Ubiquiti mPower Pro Outlet)
- Supermicro IPMI (out-of-band keyboard/video/mouse control)
- VMware vRealize Log Insight 4.3 (syslog target for my VMware vSphere, Netgear, and Ubiquiti equipment)
- Welcome to VMware (main VCSA welcome page)
- VMware Appliance Management (VAMI)
- Host Client (individual ESXi host)
- vSphere Web Client (Adobe Flash UI for vSphere cluster)
- vSphere Client (HTML5 UI for vSphere Cluster)
- Chrome (pinning any website to your Windows Taskbar)
