    Well, I tried it today, and even with the latest VMware Workstation 7.1.4, you get this nasty warning:

    followed by this error (notice how it says “Version:  Unrecognized virtual machine”):

    What to do?  Simple, edit the vmx file, changing the 3rd line:

    changing from

    virtualHW.version = “8”
    to
    virtualHW.version = “7”

    Save your changes, that’s it!  You can power on the virtual machine without any errors.
