  • Ok, this is kind of a big deal, there are 20 interesting fixes in this Feb 13 2014 surprise update rollup. And the list of OSs affected by this February 13th release is pretty long as well.

    Applies to

    • Windows RT 8.1
    • Windows 8.1 Enterprise
    • Windows 8.1
    • Windows 8.1 Pro
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation
    • Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard

Which fix interests me? For me, it was mostly this one:

2921066 Computer never goes to sleep even if the timer is set in Windows 8.1

I found it annoying that some of my Windows 8.1 systems would be running, day and night, even if dormant/inactive. How did I figure this out, without pouring over hundreds of Windows Events to look for sleep/wake entries? This simple little portable utility fills the need quite nicely, no install required:
    PC On/Off Time (freeware)

I'll be curious how others Windows systems fare in my home network, such as Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials.
