Three more chances at seeing a TinkerTry Xeon D SuperServer virtualization demo in 2016, at VMUGs in Vermont, Florida, and Minnesota!

Google Maps view on October 6, 2016, with my home, and the 3 destinations starred. Hard to not notice Hurricane Matthew.

Back on March 1, 2016, I was given the opportunity to do my first Intel Xeon D-1541 Supermicro SuperServer demo/presentation at my home-state's Connecticut VMUG UserCon. It was only 15 minutes long, but the crowd that formed seems to have caught the attention of the VMUG organizers, which eventually led to more opportunities for me to get to more VMUGs across the US, and a 6 hour demo at VMworld 2016 US's VMvillage!

I actually quite enjoy traveling, and heading to Vermont next week at the peak of fall foliage here in New England sounds pretty darn good to me! An amazing opportunity to present at the same event as VCDX #23 superstar Mark Gabryjelski (@MarkGabbs), whose done very popular home lab give-aways and related presentations.

I don't have any company sponsorships, it's just me with the gear that I bought, enjoying a vacation day. I suppose that makes it even more of an honor that I'd be asked to present at these large (100 to 400 attendee) events anyway, as a virtualization enthusiast and a VMware User, who uses hardware for self-training, and a variety of efficient and practical uses.

An exuberant Luis Ayuso, VMware Employee and TinkerTry fan who knows how to make things happen!

I'm also headed to Florida next month, just weeks after that huge Hurricane Matthew that hits shore tonight. My thoughts are with everybody there right now, including VMware employee Luis Ayuso (@layuso), see also his Virtual Sketchpad. He's directly responsible for getting me to this event, and is thankfully elsewhere at the moment.

Finally, there's Minneapolis Minnesota in December, right near the mass of holiday shoppers at the massive Mall of America. Among the many VMUG leaders there's Roger Lund (@rogerlund) of vbrainstorm, a guy who knows everybody, and the also-super-friendly Matt Heldstab (@mattheldstab), who I had the chance to meet at a Boston VMUGs. It was Boston's VMUG actually, as I checked in, the organizers asked if I'd be interested. Where do I sign?

Of course, I'll be bringing gear with me for each event. Well, not as much as what was pictured at right or my signature live demos, along with an amazingly fast $73 Ubiquiti EdgeMax Lite router that does beautiful vSphere-friendly DNS. Of course, a smart Ubiquiti power strip too, and some Xeon D goodness, of course. I'll leave ample time for lots of Q&A, my favorite part really. Why? Well, I already know what's in my head, I want to hear about what in other heads. Q&A is where I get to find out about new ideas, and what people are doing lately in their home labs.

Click twice to zoom waaaay in. Every system has VMware ESXi 6.0U2 running, at idle. 3 SSDs in the SYS-5028D-TN4T 8 core mini-tower, 2 in the rest of the systems. Under Windows, watt use would be about 20%-40% lower at idle, and about the same under heavy load.
