  • How does a 24 port metal-bodied compact switch from Cisco sound? Quiet! Yes, no fans, always a good thing for home labs.

Its compact size also makes this a nice choice for more user group demonstrations, to be announced soon.

Unmanaged, efficient (as you'll see in the video), and silent. Just does its thing, and I'm cool with that. With a flat network that emphasizes simplicity, I personally have no need to manage my 1GbE switches. See also Cisco's Compare Models page that includes the 1U wide SG110-24HP version of the same switch. Featuring two SFP ports, 35.7 mpps of forwarding capacity, and Head-of-line (HOL) blocking prevention.

I'm using this gigabit switch to wire up all my copper 1GbE ports for those on-loan compact Xeon D systems, and will likely use it for future home "production" projects as well.

This 24 1GbE port Cisco SG112-24 (SG11224NA) is widely available, and featured for under $150 USD at Amazon and Newegg.

This new video features my unboxing, careful inspection of design features, and a preliminary watt burn test.
